FRIDAYS AFTER FIVE - BUD LIGHT CONCERT SERIES

The Believers (Reunion) - Classic Blue Collar Rock - Free Show

In 1988, Charlie Pastorfield’s extremely successful band, Skip Castro, was calling it quits. Charlie needed an outlet for his prolific songwriting/singing and guitar skills, and turned to Charlottesville’s stalwart bassist Steve Riggs, drummer Conrad Drennon, and Jimmy Carpenter, a NC sax payer he had met on the road. Thus began Charlie Pastorfield and The Believers’ 8 year run as one of the hardest working original rock-n-roll bands on the East Coast, touring as widely as Austin and Key West. But the band found its real success closer to home, in NC, VA, and MD, and built a huge following in Charlottesville, Northern Virginia, and DC. During those 8 years The Believers released 3 recordings: (Golden Road, ’89; I’m Your Prisoner, ’92; Live at Red Hot ‘n’ Blue, ’94).

There were, of course, numerous personnel changes over the years, but Charlie and Jimmy persevered and held the band together. In its last and arguably the strongest version, they were joined by El Torro Gamble on drums, and Ross King on bass in 1993, and this is the band reuniting for a 3-show tour this August, starting in Charlottesville on Friday, August 11th, part of the Friday at Five series. The last reunion was in August of 2005, 12 years ago almost to the day. “The Believers look forward to playing music together for the first time in many years, and to seeing and hanging with old friends, fans and family!”
